ANNUAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS
Every year, LRI graduates gather to honor our most inspiring community leaders, while reuniting to celebrate leadership and raise money for LRI scholarships and program support.
Award Descriptions
The David E. Sweet Award was established 19 years ago to honor the memory of one of the driving forces behind the design of the LRI Program, David E. Sweet. The ideals David Sweet embraced in his leadership roles were ones of service, dedication and a deeply held commitment to the community. He led by positive example and immense compassion for others and worked diligently to make a difference. David Sweet personified the spirit of leadership. This award recognizes an outstanding individual who has demonstrated his or her commitment to the community, either personally, through the allocation of resources, or by inspiring others to serve the community.
The RI Community Service Award recognizes an outstanding individual in our state whose extraordinary vision, commitment and leadership have made a significant impact upon our community. The awardee may or may not be a Leadership Rhode Island graduate.
The LRI Volunteer Award, recognizes an outstanding volunteer contribution to the Leadership Rhode Island program. Service may take many forms, such as committee work, board service, fund raising, or program assistance.
An expansion of the Youth Leadership Awards given since 2002, the Emerging Leader Award recognizes an outstanding young person whose vision, dedication, and leadership qualities have inspired others to take action to create community change. The nominee must be 21 years of age or under, or enrolled full-time as an undergraduate, at the time the award is presented. The nominee's leadership must serve a community or communities in Rhode Island.
Each year the Scholarship Luncheon Committee reserves the right to recognize individuals whose accomplishments may not be perfectly aligned with LRI's other award categories. These Special Recognition honorees have made significant contributions to our state.
