WORKSITE WELLNESS COMMITTEE

In 2004, Leadership Rhode Island (LRI) announced an exciting partnership with the Worksite Wellness Council of Rhode Island (WWCRI) to benefit the quality of life in the state. LRI and WWCRI share common interests in improving the health and wellness of Rhode Islanders, in taking action on a statewide level, and in making Rhode Island the first Well State in the nation, as recognized by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA).

The two organizations cooperated in developing a work plan which LRI’s Worksite Wellness Committee is charged with fulfilling. The plan included a joint mailing endorsing worksite wellness initiatives, and a joint event to increase alumni awareness of the Well State initiative – both of which were accomplished in Winter 2005. The committee continued throughout that year to share information and plan community outreach efforts to advance WWCRI's vision. When 20% of Rhode Island’s workforce is employed by WELCOA-certified organizations, Rhode Island will be certified a Well State.

All LRI alumni are encouraged to take action in multiple ways, including adopting a healthy personal lifestyle, learning about the Well State initiative, becoming a worksite wellness champion in their organizations, and assisting the state of Rhode Island to become the first Well State.
