Epsilon 1985: Beverly Levitt-Narciso, director of community outreach at Tamarisk Assisted Living will be installed to the 2009-2010 Board of Directors of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce on September 22nd. - 8/31/09

Nu 1993: Beverly Najarian will be honored by the Rhode Island Commission on Women as a 2009 Women of the Year, at an annual event on October 8th for her significant contributions to improve the quality of life for women in our state. - 8/31/09

Sigma 1998: Lisa Churchville was named to the board of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School. - 8/31/09

Phi 2001: Dr. Kathleen Hittner will be honored by the Rhode Island Commission on Women as a 2009 Women of the Year, at an annual event on October 8th for her significant contributions to improve the quality of life for women in our state. - 8/31/09

Beta II 2006 : Kristen DiSanto was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. She is senior vice president of human resources at the Washington Trust Company. - 8/31/09

Deb O'Brien was named chief operating officer of the Providence Center. Before that she was chief progam officer. - 8/31/09

Gamma II 2007: Amy Quinn was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. She is the public relations director for Cox Communications.-8/31/09

Delta II 2008: Julie Casimiro was named director of advancement at Children's Friend. She was previously director of product marketing at MetLife Auto & Home. - 8/31/09

Shanna Marzilli was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. She is an assistant vice president for corporate compliance and ethics at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.-8/31/09

Jamie Messier was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. He is a principal at Restivo Monacelli LLP.-8/31/09

Jenny Miller was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. She is the founder and president of Senior Care Concepts.-8/31/09

Carrie Miranda was named to the Providence Business News' 40 Under Forty for 2009. She is the executive director of Looking Upwards Inc.-8/31/09

Notes from June 2009...

Eta 1987: Ron Canigilia was honored by CCRI's Alumni Association with an honorary Alumni Award for his service to the college. Ron served as the President of the CCRI Foundation among his other activities on behalf of the school. Also, Ron's Stand Corporation won the contract to build 22 affordable apartments on the southside of Providence. - 6/18/09

Brenda Dann-Messier was nominated by President Obama to be an assistant secretary of education. Brenda is Dorcas Place president and sits on the Board of Governors for Higher Education. -6/25/09

Theta 1988: Sandra Sullivan has been appointed chair of the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships' Water Institute. The Water Institute is the forum for NCPPP members to develop programs and activities that support the appropriate use of public-private partnerships in the water and wastewater sector. Sullivan is Vice President of Government & Industry Relations for Veolia Water North America - 6/08/09

Iota 1989: Carol Golden has been named chief development officer at the Rhode Island Foundation. During her 18-year tenure, she has served the Rhode Island Foundation as acting president, senior vice president for development and chief operating officer. - 6/08/09

Xi 1994: Armeather Gibbs, COO of United Way of Rhode Island, will be honored for her achievement of the American Dream and her generosity in helping others fulfill their dreams. The American Dream benefit gala takes place on September 12, 7pm to midnight at Hope Artiste Village. All proceeds benefit Amos House's program to uplift and empower the poor and homeless. Susan Keller, Esq. was honored at the 2009 Providence Business News Business Women Awards Luncheon for her work as a Mentor & Ally to Business Women. - 6/08/09

Pi 1996: Frank Prosnitz, president and owner of Prosnitz Communications, was named president elect for the Public Relations Society of America's Southeastern New England Chapter. He will chair the PRSA/SENE New Members Committee. - 6/08/09

Phi 2001: Allan Fung, Mayor of Cranston received the Charles B. Willard Achievement Award from the Rhode Island College Alumni Association at the Alumni Awards Dinner held in May for bringing honor to the college by distinguished achievement in his field. He is a 1992 graduate of RIC.- 6/08/09

Elizabeth Messier has been named to serve a three-year term on the advisory council for Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, a global real estate network. - 6/08/09

Chi 2002: Joseph Miech has been named to the newly created position of chief operating officer at (add) ventures. He will oversee operations and improve procedures and organizational planning. Previously, Joseph had served as lieutenant colonel and chief administrative officer for the Rhode Island State Police. - 6/08/09

Psi 2003: Terry Allen has been named senior vice president at Citizens Bank. He will serve as head of commercial real estate finance within Citizens' Global Restructuring Group. - 6/08/09

Alpha II 2005: Beth Eckel was profiled in the monthly Providence Business News, Business Women Feature- 6/08/09

Beta II 2006 : Kristen DiSanto has been promoted to senior vice president of human resources at Washington Trust. She is now responsible for managing the human resources function, including staffing, training, compensation, benefits and employee relations. - 6/08/09

Delta II 2008: Maryellen Butke was honored with the 2009 Paul V. Sherlock Leadership Award by the RI Department of Education for her excellence in the field of special education at their Leadership Conference Luncheon on May 4th. The award recognizes superior committment to the enhancement of educational opportunities and outcomes for all children. Maryellen is the director of organizational development at The Met. - 6/08/09

Diane Dolphin won second place for her poem, "Recipe" in The Writers' Circle National Poetry Competition. The contest drew 85 entries, with over 400 individual poems, submitted from 23 states around the country. - 6/08/09

Amie Picard, senior public affairs manager for Citizens Bank, has been named to the board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America, Southeastern New England Chapter. She will serve as treasurer. - 6/08/09

Lori-Ann Zannini was recently featured in Providence Business News's Business Women section. Lori-Ann is the founder and president of Paralegal Resources Inc., a company that specializes in commercial real estate transactions across the country. Read the article here. - 6/08/09

CLRI 2004: Suzy Alba was honored by the Rhode Island College Alumni Association as Young Alumni of the Year at the Alumni Awards Dinner held in May for her dedication and service to the college. She is a 2005 graduate of RIC. - 6/08/09

Dave Cranshaw has received an MBA from Bryant University. He currently works as a writer in the University Relations Office at Bryant University. - 6/08/09

Brian Malachowski has received an MBA from Boston University and has accepted a job at CVS/Caremark. - 6/08/09

Julie Moura has received an MBA in Human Resources Management from Salve Regina University and was recently hired as Senior Human Resources Generalist at American Power Conversion. She previously worked at Textron as a Human Resources Representative. - 6/08/09


In Memoriam...

Kappa 1990: Barbara R. Maroney, who worked for the City of Providence, passed away on July 7, 2008. She was the companion of Samuel Limiadi, Xi 1994. - 7/15/08

Lambda 1991: Herbert Kaplan, a philanthropist who founded the New England Amateur Skating Foundation, passed away in June. - 7/15/08
