COLLEGE LEADERSHIP RHODE ISLAND

Civic Engagement and the Business Community

The final session of the College Leadership program focuses on employee and corporate involvement in the community through such avenues as volunteerism, sponsorship and partnerships with non-profit agencies.

At the 2005 session, the students heard from business leaders, including representatives of Hasbro, CVS and Citizens Bank, about the role of community engagement in the business world and working life.  They also had the opportunity to tour Fidelity’s facilities, as well as reflect on their future participation as they transition from students to involved citizens and employees.  The students participated in an interactive discussion about job hunting and career planning.

Commencement

A short commencement ceremony follows the final session of College Leadership. In 2005, the ceremony was held in the main function room at Fidelity Investments in Smithfield.  Lisa Churchville, LRI ’98, General Manager of NBC-10 WJAR provided the keynote address, and CCRI Providence student Roy Bolden was the class-nominated speaker.

John Muggeridge, LRI ’04, General Manager of Fidelity Investments also addressed the class of 2005.  “Fidelity is proud to support Leadership Rhode Island and the Emerging Leaders Program (renamed College Leadership Rhode Island),” he said.  “We believe that the development of civic awareness in the future leaders of Rhode Island is critical to the future of the state.  We are pleased to help the next generation of leaders in Rhode Island.”
