COLLEGE LEADERSHIP RHODE ISLAND

Community Landscape

Session Two of the College Leadership program is called “Community Landscape” because it provides an overview of Rhode Island’s community needs such as affordable housing and healthcare, as well as the service providers working to meet these needs.

For the first two years of the program, students visited Crossroads Rhode Island (formerly Travelers Aid), a non-profit agency serving the state’s homeless population.  They then had the opportunity to reflect on and, in dialog with one another, articulate a vision for the future of the state.  Members of the 2004 class were so affected by what they saw and learned about at Crossroads that they went on to found on-campus and inter-campus groups to raise consciousness of Rhode Island’s housing crisis.

The students’ vision for the future and their group project to raise public awareness build on prior activities of goal-setting and planning which take place during Orientation and Session One.
