COLLEGE LEADERSHIP RHODE ISLAND

Orientation

An orientation component was built into the college program after its pilot year.  Both students and committee members expressed a need to get to know each other better before jumping into the program.  The first Orientation was held at Amica in December 2004, kicking off the 2005 College Leadership class.

Today, the orientation serves multiple purposes.  During orientation, students still get the opportunity to meet and greet each other and network with students from other campuses.  In addition, they break into working groups in which they will collaborate on a community project.

Finally, the orientation session gives students both a practical and a theoretical introduction to Leadership Rhode Island.  Students and the committee members who plan the program both discuss their expectations for the program, and students engage in exercises to begin thinking about their own ideas of leadership and their personal visions.

This introduction prepares everyone for the four exciting, content-rich sessions to come!
